A Dual-Entity Business Plan for Inclusive Housing & Research
Combining an L3C (Collaborative) and a 501(c)(3) (Institute)
Startup Budget: $1,00,000 | Location: Minnesota | Pilot Year: Year 1
In April 2022, our family deliberately embraced multigenerational living as a solution to caregiving, economic sustainability, and inclusion of neurodivergent family members. This decision was practical and visionary, recognizing the long-term benefits of shared caregiving, financial resource pooling, and community-based support. However, in 2024, a catastrophic structural failure forced us out of our home, disrupting the essential stability that our neurodivergent family members relied on. This crisis highlighted a critical gap in housing options for families like ours. It reinforced the need to develop a scalable, evidence-based housing model that provides stability, economic security, and enhanced quality of life.
Introduction: Our Story & The Need for a Research-Based Approach

Summary
NeuroNest is a pioneering dual-entity initiative consisting of NeuroNest Collaborative (L3C) and NeuroNest Institute (501(c)(3)). This innovative model addresses the chronic lack of inclusive, sustainable, and neurodivergent-specific housing by launching a pilot hub in Minnesota
The Problem & Market Need
Current housing options for neurodivergent individuals often lack scalable, inclusive housing models for neurodivergent families, limited economic empowerment, or long-term stability for neurodivergent families. Families are often forced to choose between inadequate group homes, unaffordable private care, or makeshift multigenerational living without support.

A multigenerational neurodivergent family will occupy our first NeuroNest hub—a retrofitted 7-bedroom house. The Collaborative will manage property operations, develop on-site employment through coaching and DEI consulting, and generate data through the Institute on quality of life, community inclusion, and financial feasibility.
Phase 1: The Pilot Hub
The NeuroNest Institute will use quantitative and qualitative data from the pilot to evaluate outcomes in well-being, housing security, financial sustainability, and replication potential. Findings will be used to develop a national toolkit, inform policy, and train partners to replicate the model across communities.
Phase 2: Research & Replication
Timeline & Milestones
Year 1
Launch the prototype hub and begin data collection
Year 2
Analyze data and publish findings; develop a toolkit
Year 3
Expand to 3–5 regional NeuroNest hubs
Year 4
Implement a national training and replication model
NeuroNest is requesting a $1,000,000 investment to launch and scale a dual-entity model that integrates affordable multigenerational housing, coaching, employment, and research for neurodivergent families. This plan also includes a $75,000 owner investment, contributed from the sale of a personal home, to demonstrate a strong founder's commitment and reduce funder risk.
